From funky air fresheners to fancy radios, there are a lot of car upgrades that you can make to make life a little more luxurious.

But if you’re looking to make life a little more practical, there are a few upgrades that should be bumped up on your wish list.

The 5 upgrades covered here both make your driving and car ownership experience that little bit easier by making your car more than just a means of getting from A to B.

A bike rack

If you ride a bicycle, or have a child that rides a bike you’ll no doubt have had to transport it using a car.

Oil in the boot from the chain, bad visibility out the back window, the undesirable job of taking the front wheel off and maybe even the back one too.

You might not realise how much hassle that is until you don’t have to do it anymore. A bike rack on the back of the car saves a huge amount of time and makes it easier to get to those trails, country parks, or wherever else you intend to peddle.

(and pssst, here’s a secret … you don’t have to use them for bikes – it makes for a good drying rack if you have a driveway but limited garden space for drying).

Car mats

There are 2 reasons to get car mats; The first reason is more about the quality of your car’s interior, which can be improved with a nice velour mat.

But the one that we’ll be focussing on is the addition of a rubber mat which makes life so much easier for those who work on site or out and about.

If you bring in a bit of mud, it’s just a shake or two away from being gone – maybe a wipe if it’s gotten really muddy.

Generally though, it makes the cleaning job much easier and makes a hoover, some fabric cleaner, and a good few hours of drying a 5 minute job.

And what’s better is now manufacturers are able to tailor mats to a footwell, so for example if you drive a Nissan Juke you can get a custom cut car mat.

Tent box

So you’re thinking of going on a road trip, and there’s a million things that you want to bring along.

Whether you’re camping, glamping, or hitting the hotels, knowing that you have a backup makes life much easier.

The Tentbox has blown up in popularity as of late and for good reason. It takes minutes to pop it up once installed and always gives you the peace of mind of a back up.

While this is quite a big investment, it’s a great addition for adventurous types as it means you have somewhere safe and comfy to stay no matter where you are or when you get there.

A dashcam

Seriously useful piece of kit. The dash cam is the best form of protection should something go awry.

When it comes to insurance claims, you have the evidence right at your fingertips, all with one relatively cheap piece of kit.

Also, according to moneysupermarket, a dashcam can make insurance cheaper generally!

Phone mount

Using a phone mount in your car offers a range of practical benefits that can make driving safer and more convenient.

This setup is especially useful for drivers who rely on GPS, as the phone remains in clear view and at eye level, reducing the need to glance away from traffic.

On top of that, many phone mounts are adjustable, making it easy to find the best angle and position for comfortable viewing.

Invest in your car; it’ll pay you back in time

From eliminating the need to scrub the muck out of those carpet car mats, to knowing you always have a backup place to stay on your road trip, there are a lot of extras you can add to your car.

The ones outlined here will hopefully make the driving and car ownership process that little bit easier.
